What an AI-native marketing agency does (and what it shouldn't)

An AI-native marketing agency uses AI for the fast, repeatable work, like scripts, ad versions, captions, research, reports and instant replies to new leads, while real people record the videos, talk to customers and approve everything. It should never use AI to fake customers, reviews or results, or to text and call people who didn't agree to it.

Key takeaways

  • AI is good at drafts and speed. It writes first drafts, makes many ad versions and replies to leads in seconds.
  • People are still needed for trust. Real people record, sell and approve.
  • The red flags are fake proof and texting without consent. Both can get a business in legal trouble.
  • Ask who owns the ad account and the data. It should be you.

What AI does well in marketing

  • Scripts. AI turns your offer, hours and common questions into a dozen first drafts in minutes. A person edits them so they sound like you.
  • Ad versions. Ads wear out. AI makes it cheap to write 30 hooks, headlines and captions so there's always something fresh to test.
  • Captions and hashtags for every video.
  • Research. Summarizing what kinds of videos and ads are working in your industry this month, so people can pick formats.
  • Reports. Pulling numbers from your ad account and CRM into a weekly summary a person checks before it's sent.
  • Fast follow-up. Replying to a new lead in seconds, answering simple questions and offering open times. Speed matters: firms that tried to reach leads within an hour were nearly 7 times as likely to qualify them (Harvard Business Review, 2011).

What people still have to do

JobAI's partPeople's part
VideosDraft scripts and captionsRecord on camera, edit, check it sounds like the business
AdsWrite many versions to testChoose what runs, check Meta's rules, set the budget
Lead repliesSend the first reply, answer simple questions, offer timesTake over for billing, complaints, injuries or anything medical
SalesRemind people about their appointmentMeet the customer and make the sale
ReportsPull the numbers and draft the summaryCheck the numbers and decide what to change
ApprovalNoneThe business owner approves anything sent in their name

Not everything needs AI. A friendly person on camera and a front desk that answers the people who book still do the most important work.

Red flags to watch for

Fake customers and AI testimonials

Some tools sell AI "customers" who praise a business on camera. That's a fake testimonial. The FTC's rule on reviews and testimonials, in effect since October 2024, bans fake reviews and testimonials, including AI-generated ones and ones from people who don't exist (FTC, August 2024). In 2024, the FTC also acted against an AI writing tool it said let users create fake reviews (FTC, September 2024). A labeled AI spokesperson is a different thing from a fake customer, but even then, Meta adds an AI label to ads its tools make with photorealistic AI people (Meta, February 2025).

Bots that text all night, or text people who never opted in

Fast replies are good. Texts at 2am, or texts to people who never agreed, are not. Text only people who opted in, from 9am to 8pm in their time zone and not before noon on Sundays, and send an email outside those hours. Every first text should name the business, and STOP must work. AI voice calls are covered too: the FCC ruled in 2024 that AI-generated voices count as "artificial" voices under the TCPA, so they need consent (FCC, February 2024). Our missed-call text-back guide covers the basics.

Ads that make claims about the viewer

AI tools often write hooks like "Are you overweight?" Meta doesn't allow ads that state or hint at personal traits (Meta's policy). A person should check every ad before it runs.

Promises nobody can keep

Be careful with "guaranteed customers" or "guaranteed sales." An agency can control replies, bookings and delivery. It can't control whether someone buys once they walk in. For med spas and health businesses, any promise about results is a red flag.

You don't own your accounts

If the agency runs ads from its own account or keeps your leads in its own system, you can lose everything when you leave. Ask before you sign.

Questions to ask any AI marketing agency

  1. Which parts are AI and which parts are people?
  2. Who records the videos? Are any people in them AI-made?
  3. Do I approve everything before it goes out?
  4. Who can your system text, and at what hours?
  5. Is the ad account in my name? Do you mark up ad spend?
  6. What exactly do you guarantee, and what are the conditions?

How Hypely works

We use AI for scripts, ad versions, captions, research, reports and fast follow-up. People do the rest. Our creators record short videos speaking as your business, or you send clips and we edit them. You approve every script. We run Meta ads in your own ad account, you pay Meta directly, and we never mark up spend. Our lead follow-up replies to every new lead in under 60 seconds: a text from 9am to 8pm in the lead's time zone, not before noon on Sundays, and an instant email the rest of the time. We only text people who opted in.

We guarantee booked appointments, not customers or sales. Before ads start, we set a target for your first 30 days of ads based on your ad spend, and it has conditions, like answering the people who book and keeping ad spend at the agreed level. See our guarantees and pricing.

Questions

What is an AI marketing agency?

An agency that uses AI tools for parts of the work, like writing drafts, making ad versions, building reports and replying to leads fast, with people doing the recording, selling and approving.

Is an AI marketing agency good for a small business?

It can be, if AI is used for speed and drafts and people stay in charge of what goes out. Check how they handle consent, fake proof and account ownership.

Can AI make my marketing videos?

AI can help with scripts, captions and background shots. For the people on camera, use real people speaking for your business, and label any AI person.

Is it legal to use an AI chatbot to text leads?

It can be, if you only text people who opted in, follow texting hours, name your business and honor STOP. AI voice calls need consent. This is not legal advice.

Will an AI agency replace my front desk?

No. AI can send the first reply and book times. Your team still needs to greet people, answer hard questions and make the sale.
